Inspiration!

Hobby Lobby took this wonderful picture for the Simplicity Pattern 1338 or "It's So Easy, It's Simplicity" 1190. I love the rich fabrics, my favorite colors! The handles have trim sewn onto the webbing which gives it a more finished look. The fabric design was also centered very well. Looks Fabulous!

#KidsCanLearn2Sew Contest

This summer McCall's and PatternReview are sponsoring a sewing contest just for kids called #KidsCanLearn2Sew. In order to enter to win patterns, fabric, and a new Janome sewing machine you have to submit a 1-minute video of your child learning to sew. This video project was so much fun and gave us a goal to work on while the girls were on summer vacation.
There were a lot of stages of the project like picking out the fabric and pattern, it took my daughter forever to look around at JoAnn's. Luckily, we knew what pattern she wanted, M7426, because we had shopped online but when it came to the fabric she surveyed every knit fabric choice three times at least.
I was shocked when Kinsey showed me her choices. Inside my mind, I was screaming, "Leggings?? You want to sew knit leggings? Are you sure you don't want to sew a cotton shirt or dress?" but I kept my cool and acted like it was totally fine.
Which... guess what...it was fine.
WIP
My older daughter even got into helping her younger sister by videoing her on the iPad. It was great seeing them work together for one goal.

Here is her finished product. I loved that we have this video of her discovering sewing and exploring how to put a sewing pattern together.
We also put together an out take video of her trying to complete the leggings project. We laughed so hard when we made a mistake. Talk about learning how to get over your mistakes, sewing forces you to try and try again if you first don't succeed. The seam ripper is your best friend and you have to rise above to get the best end result.
Here is our Out Takes Video....

I love this video! My favorite out take is when she tears the paper pattern. She is so funny! I hope she wins but we have won just by playing the game. Thank you, McCall's and PatternReview for the amazing opportunity to participate. We will remember this forever!

Scrappy Bits and Pieces

Untitled
One of my favorite things to do on the weekend is to pull all of my favorite fabrics out and patchwork small pieces into a beautiful work of art. Most of the pieces I pulled are from earlier collections of Amy Butler Fabrics. These fabrics are out of print and hard to find so I never throw them away.
Patchwork Pincushions
This weekend I created two beautiful patchwork Tic Tac Toe Pincushions. These pincushions are 7" square, large enough for all of your pins and needles. They last forever! I still have my first Tic Tac Toe Pincushion and it is by far my favorite sewing accessory!
Tic Tac Toe Pincushion
The Tic Tac Toe Pincushion design is available free here on this site. If you make one we would love to see it. Tag your Tic Tac Toe Pincushion with #SewSpoiled so we can view it.
Patchwork Pincushion Side 1
But if you want to buy a Tic Tac Toe Pincushion already made with a Sew Spoiled Label, the hard to find Amy Butler and beautiful indigo blue pincushions are available in my Sew Spoiled Etsy shop.
Patchwork Pincushions
These two gorgeous pincushions are ready to ship and be used on your sewing table. I will ship them through priority mail so you can receive it within 2-3 days.

If you use the SEWSPOILED coupon code you will receive an extra 15% off discount!
Patchwork Pincushions
I love buying truly handmade products. These pincushions are not made somewhere else and distributed by me, they are made by me and available in my small shop for you. Sew Spoil your self with a Sew Spoiled Pincushion!

My Little Pony Cape Tutorial

If you have little girls you know about My Little Ponies. They are much cooler now, than when I collected them. They also sell My Little Ponies in a multitude of sizes. We recently purchased a Pinkie Pie and Flutter Shy from the Build a Bear shop at the mall. These are larger ponies and of course after buying the pony you have to dress them up. However, my girls are a little different. Instead of  dressing them at the store, we get ideas and make stuff at home.
The tutorial I am going to share today is the My Little Pony Cape, for the large ponies at Build a Bear. This pattern is also reversible so you can make one with two totally different sides and flip flop it for different looking capes.

Print the PDF Template Here.

Materials:
2- Fat Quarters measuring 18" X 22"
1/4" wide elastic

Key Fobs are so easy to make and make excellent gifts for family and friends.
Here is my Key Fob Tutorial. I love embroidering using the same color thread as the webbing color.

Totally Tubular Tuba Project

My students and I have been working hard at becoming the best band in our area. We sound great but we are missing the lower tones only a Tuba can provide! Our school does not own one and it is too much of an expense for a family to purchase. When we receive the tuba it will be used for 3 classes affecting over 70 students. We wrote a Donors Choose Project called Totally Tubular Tuba and we need your help. We are asking for donations for a tuba for our band program. If we all work together our students will be able to start learning about this new instrument next fall when school starts. If you want to contribute but in a sewing way all of the Sew Spoiled Craftsy Patterns or Pay Pal sells from the Sew Spoiled Etsy Shop the months of June and July will go to the Totally Tubular Tuba Project!
Below is a short video that shows you how to make sure your money is going straight to the project at hand. Donors Choose is a great company but they also give themselves 15% of every donation, of every project on their site.
I hope that you go to Donors Choose to help our school or even other schools. It is a great opportunity to help teachers get the items they need for their classrooms.
Thank you!

Shop Vs. Sew 2017 Spring Trending

The first trending style this spring is the jumper! The picture on the left is the McCall's 6083 by Margo from Creating In The Gap. If you are looking for this look in a different design, the Carly Jumpsuit by Style Arc. The picture on the right is a jumper from Cato Fashion, cost is only $21.99.

The next trend is ruffly sleeves or fun cuffs. McCall 7542, sewing pattern on the left, gives you a lot of choices of different sleeve types. There is also sewing contest for this pattern from now to May 7, 2017. Simply create a top using this pattern and then post it on social media; Facebook, Twitter, and/or Instagram to enter to win. The winnings are a $100 gift certificate to Vogue Fabrics and $100 worth of McCall Patterns! On the right is J. Crew's, Ruffle Sleeve Top for $39.50 with a coupon code; HOPTOIT.

This Pamela Palm Linen Poncho is from Chico and couldn't be easier to make. At Chico it will cost you $89.00. By the way, this is not linen, at least I don't believe it is. I looks to be Chiffon. It should be Silk Chiffon for that price but probably is not. If you want Silk Chiffon look here at Mood. This is a rectangle with a hole for the head. Here is a free tutorial at Lucky Sew and Sew. You can also make wonderful scarves from Silk Chiffon!

Anthropologie is selling Pilcro Hyphen Mid-Rise Boyfriend Jeans with trimmed out cuffs for $148.00! You can totally create the same look by sewing fabric or trim to the bottoms of any pair of your pants. That is crazy! Sometimes I am shocked at how high these trendy garments are but someone is paying it! Don't let it be you.

Kid Pik Review

IMG_3082
We decided to try Kid Pik. If you haven't heard of Kid Pik it is a company like Stitch Fix, where you enter information about yourself (or in this case about your daughter) and a fashion consultant sends you a box of 7 items. We received a light sweater, sandals, a bubble top, a tank top, one pair of shorts, a pair of jeans, a headband and a stripe/ floral top.
IMG_3084
Super cute sweater, with hearts knitted into the fabric.
IMG_3085
This is the shirt my daughter fell in love with. Love at first site! It also matches a lot of the items already in her closet. She is also wearing a sparkly navy headband. We decided to keep both!
IMG_3087
This is my favorite, beautiful flower fabric sewn to the back of the shirt.
IMG_3091
This was a free gift! She received 5 pins she can place on her bookbag, purse or denim jean jacket! Many of the items were placed in cute bags!
IMG_3092
I loved this item the dot swing tank but my daughter didn't. I was hoping she would keep it. This part was hard. I listened to her wishes and put it back in the send back bag. That made her feel good, later when we were on the site telling Kid Pik what we wanted. We were able to tell them this item is not her style, she loved being able to let them know she doesn't like something.
IMG_3093
These were cute but they are too short for school. If we can't wear them to school we don't buy!
IMG_3094
These were cute too, but the weather here is already in the high 80's. So no pants!
IMG_3096
My girls are the same shoe size. Which is weird because they are 3 years apart. Both of them did not like the silver sandals. Oh well, I guess we will see what happens next time. Just receiving mail was so much fun.
IMG_3097
Kid Pik did not get in touch with Sew Spoiled and wanted us to review. This was all on our own. It was totally free and we kept two items, paid for them and sent the rest back free of charge. So far it has been a great experience. There are some rules; you have 7 days to send back the items you don't want to keep and don't try it on if you don't want to keep it.

Bunny Bag

Bunny bag
This is the Bunny Bag from The Makers' Journal Etsy Shop. It is a wonderful mini bag that looks like a corsage on your wrist. My sister is getting married in May and I think these will be perfect little gifts. She is planning the ceremony for the beach, what a cute accessory for the ladies in the wedding party.
Bunny bag
This picture is just show off the size of this beauty. I can not wait for spring! This bag will look great with a cute skirt and flats.
Bunny bag
The handle is just a little knot that sits on top. The sides of the bag are drawn in by elastic. There is no magnet clasps, zippers or buttons. Yay! These would make great teacher gifts in May! I am going to be making a ton of them. As if that is not enough, you can also buy it in a shoulder bag size!

Love it!
